During our first meeting it was obvious that Janan Thomas of Serene Transitions knew her job and was not interested in just getting stuff to a landfill. Considering how much of my brother’s “stuff” she had to contend with, she and her team managed to complete the job seamlessly within the timeframe projected. She suggested an online auction as an option which would reduce trucking fees and allow interested buyers to bid on items. Her careful cataloging made a difference.
We managed this process from a distance. I do not live in Massachusetts. Our communications via e-mail were frequent, relevant, and clear. The work was done professionally and smoothly. The house when she finished was “move in ready.” I highly recommend her and the Serene Transitions team.

Put simply, we couldn't have made our recent move without Janan Thomas and her team. We had to do a drastic downsizing of our household goods, but also our sizable art collection as well. Our experience with Serene Transitions exceeded expectations. Janan handled literally everything related to the physical moving out of the old place and into the new. She patiently sorted through 61 years of accumulated household effects and personal memorabilia as my parents downsized from 9 rooms to 3, suggesting what turned out to be a very comfortable floor plan in the new apartment, packing, unpacking and guiding in every way. My parents left their home in the morning and arrived at the new apartment to find the bed made, ready for a restful night's sleep. Within two days everything was unpacked and out of boxes. The auction of the remaining items meant the family was not saddled with days and days of clearing out. If part of your loved ones trepidation for moving is due to the immense physical tasks involved, then turn to Janan to truly make the transition a serene one. My parents, brothers and I know that doing this alone would have been a terrible strain on our time and psyches and we all agree Janan and team's services are worth every penny.

​Going into this, I never thought my mom could move to a new place without a lot of attention and effort but I sure was wrong. It became pretty important to my mom that she move fairly soon and with my living out-of-state, Janan's help was tremendous.
Janan met with my mom to get a good idea of what was needed and how she could help before providing a detailed estimate. She then worked with my mom to identify what items she wanted to keep and move - which helped the packing and moving go a lot smoother. She coordinated with service providers and movers and carefully packed items before the big day. Moving day went like a well oiled machine and my mom was very pleased. Items were quickly unpacked, pictures were hung, and computer, tv, and phone were ready to go.
Janan then followed-up to make sure that 100% of my mom's needs were taken care of - something I really appreciate. Janan went above and beyond in what she did for my mom and according to my mom, Janan was as nice as could be. And beyond all that, she did a fantastic job of keeping me well-informed during the whole moving process. In my book, that's wonderful and I can't say enough nice things about her and how much she helped my mom. Thank you so much Janan!

Making a move for and elderly parent is daunting and stressful. With many years of memories to sort through, the task to decide what to keep and what to throw away is hard. Janan came recommended to us. From quoting to finish her calm nature was a relief to the process. Once it came to the move, we were able to concentrate our efforts on Mom and her needs. By the time we arrived to her new abode that afternoon, Janan and her team had the apartment set up and livable. One additional day was taken to hang pictures and finish unpacking. Janan's pricing is very fair for the amount of work she does. Adding the ease of letting her manage the move was a relief and blessing for the entire family. With my chronic health issues, moving house felt much more daunting than at any time in the past. Thankfully, my broker recommended Serene Transitions. Janan is extremely knowledgeable, intuitive, resourceful, ethical, kind … I could go on. And a real pleasure to work with. As were the support people she brought in. Anything I needed help with throughout the entire process, she had a solution, including critical items like lining up a trusted moving company or preparing my previous home to be sold after I moved out. Janan Thomas of Serene Transitions was our Move Manager when we recently downsized from a spacious condo to an apartment that was half the size. As do-it-yourselfers, we knew we were not up to the this task, but Janan certainly was! She is organized, punctual, and efficient...and one of the hardest working people we’ve ever met! She is kind and friendly during a potentially stressful time. She handled all parts of our move, including a Maxsold auction which was very successful. Once we decided to move, it was obvious that some serious downsizing was necessary first. It didn’t take long to realize that we couldn’t do this alone.....and needed professional assistance. When Janan came into our lives, good things started to happen. Big challenges became small hurdles that evolved into simple tasks on the timeline. Everything , from the downsizing auction , to packing, moving, and unpacking exceeded expectations. The last step alone made a huge difference in getting settled. "Thank you, Janan" is not enough. I highly recommend Janan Thomas, Senior Move Manager with Serene Transitions. She did a wonderful job helping me and my family to organize, declutter, move and donate a life-time of items ranging from everyday to antique. She personally packed and loaded her truck on each visit. She made sure as many items as possible were donated to charity or recycled. Her kindness, integrity and work ethic are commendable. I would recommend her whole-heartedly to anyone in need of assistance with downsizing and organizing.

Janan was just superlative. My mother, in her 90s, was quite anxious about a move from Texas to a community in Massachusetts. Janan was a model of compassion, efficiency, reliability, and calming presence. She made the move seamless and effortless. When I visited my mother the day after movers arrived, it was as if her place in Texas had been magically transposed to Massachusetts - right down to her knicknacks!

Serene Transitions is the place to go if you are downsizing, moving, packing, or unpacking. Prior to my move, they came to my home, measured my furniture and placed it on a layout of my new home. They were there for the movers and every piece of furniture fit exactly as planned. This was the most convenient, economical and well planned move we ever made. When my Mother could no longer live on her own, we were faced with a large split entry ranch crammed full of stuff, as my Mother was a bit of a hoarder. Our ultimate goal was to empty the house and fix it up for rental. Janan helped us sort through everything, saving what was meaningful and helping us make the tough choices about what to discard. She helped us sell furniture and remove what had no value. She helped us with roofing, painting, and plumbing contractors, and when the house was finally ready, found us a management company who took care of finding tenants and takes care of day to day maintenance, as we live quite a distance from the house. Thanks to Janan, we have been receiving rental income from the property for over a year now from a house which initially looked like it would be a huge financial burden. Her work was fantastic, and we never could have done it without her.

Both of our parents died within two weeks of each other from Covid. After all children took what they wanted, Serene Transitions made the rest so easy. They hired JunkLuggers to take everything out of that apartment and left it lickety split clean and vacuumed. Money very well spent and our backs were saved!

I’ve worked with Janan and her organizational skills are phenomenal. She has an eye for what needs to be done as well as how it will benefit all parties. Her empathy is her strongest suit - she knows how to help individuals through a difficult situation. Some people equate belongings with self worth and Janan has the patience to sort through those issues.

We used Serene Transitions when our 94-year-old friend Ruthie had to move into assisted living. Ruthie lived in a one-bedroom apartment, and her family only wanted to keep a few personal items. Janan sorted through all of the things that had been accumulated over several decades. I was amazed at how quickly and effectively everything happened. Each room was cleared systematically. Janan sorted through everything and packed up items we donated to Goodwill and bagged items that needed to be recycled or thrown out. There was a common room in the apartment building, where she put items for other residents to take if they could use them. Janan made arrangements for all the furniture to be picked up and moved out. She coordinated with the building manager and president of the association to make sure things were done appropriately. The entire process was seamless and professional. It was an emotional experience, and Janan’s compassionate and professional attitude made the entire process very easy. I recommend Serene Transitions without reservation.
